Flexible energy use in households (demand-side management or DSM) is a critical response to the ongoing energy crises and the more extensive integration of renewable energy into energy production. Yet, the space of technology development continues to be dominated by quantitative modelling and the assumption that users will simply ‘adapt’ to constraints and opportunities.
